Geologist

Job Description

In general, the Geologist’s primary duty is to supervise the daily core house and drilling operations in accordance with the company and JORC standards, making sure that the deliverables are submitted in a timely manner according to the schedule.

Specifically, he/she shall be responsible for the following:

  • Assist the Project Manager on all administrative work and overall site operations.
  • Coordinates with the Chief Geologist for technical guidance and direction based on the Company’s forward work program.
  • Supervise the geotechnical drilling and mapping, including other site investigations and ground verifications required for the technical studies.
  • Follow the resource, geotechnical, and hydrogeology drilling and mapping programs, making sure that the outputs adhere to the company and JORC standards.
  • Ensure that the core house operations adhere to the safety and environmental standards.
  • Monitor daily drilling and logging activities and guide field geologist on their daily tasks.
  • Conduct field check of the drill hole locations, orientation, declination, safety requirements, and coordinate with the field Assistants and drillers (contractors) if changes are necessary.
  • Conduct quick and detailed logs upon receipt of cores in the core house
  • Conduct metallurgical sampling of cores
  • Check RQD logs from the core checkers
  • Ensure proper geologic and geotechnical logging of cores according to company standards
  • Conduct QA-QC procedures for assaying core samples collected.
  • Update and cross-check geologic sections in accordance with the current cor logs
  • Ensure that the proper sampling protocols are implemented
  • Ensure that the database is updated and are in proper order
  • Coordinates with the Admin Team for logistical works to and from the site
  • Work with the team to submit weekly updates, monthly reports, and other government regulatory requirements
  • Conduct hydrological surveys (Using vibrating wire piezometers), and other downhole surveys deemed necessary.
  • Do field checks and mapping if deemed necessary for min design and/or other geologic strategies developed

Qualifications:

      • Has the ability to administer hydrogeological surveys including VWP, packer testing, and multi-level standpipes installation, data gathering, and monitoring.
      • Knowledge in Slope Stability and Landslide evaluation during site development and road construction.
      • Minimum work experience of 3-5 years

      • Has experience in drilling and core house operations.

      • Has a strong technical background and familiar with basic GIS and Microsoft office software packages.

      • Familiar with the company established health and safety protocols.

      • Has strong work ethics.
