Environmental Management Officer
Job Description
In general, the position is responsible for implementing a range of tasks related to meet statutory and non-statutory environmental performance commitments for the MCB mining project currently in the early phases of project development striking a balance between environmental conservation and industrial utilization; and directly responsible for the ground execution of relevant ECC conditions as well as ancillary environmental permitting requirements for project construction.
Specifically, he/she shall be responsible for the following:
- Development and implementation of a Tree Inventory Plan and Tree Cutting/Earth balling Plan in line with securing a tree-cutting permit for the project which includes a robust and reliable documentation process for the inventory data (geotagging/mapping, tree mensuration, species identification, etc.);
- Coordinating with the relevant regulating government agencies at the Provincial/Regional level to secure needed guidance, and required documents, negotiating schedules for the timely implementation of environmental plans and programs.
- Overseeing the development and ground execution of the project’s Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program, specifically, under the Land Resource Management Program, covering among others forest land resource management, nursery development and operation, reforestation, rehabilitation, flora and fauna biodiversity conservation.
- Establish project nursery and operations management such as seedling production and wildlings gathering.
- Safeguarding and management of all field environmental baseline and performance data within the area of responsibility ensuring alignment with and/or adherence to the company’s Environmental Management System.
- Preparation of statutory and non-statutory reports in keeping with ongoing permit compliances, to support IEC program initiatives, and meeting business sustainability reporting/disclosures.
- Overseeing the project’s reforestation efforts ensuring that they are in line with the company’s sustainability goals and principles.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Forester
- Minimum three (3) years of proven experience in a mining company as a Forester with practical experience in forest management, nursery operations, rehabilitation, and reforestation projects
- Experience as a Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Officer will be an advantage
- Experience as an accredited Pollution Control Officer will be an advantage.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Operations
- Basic knowledge in GIS/Mapping software
