They have played lead roles in the exploration, development, and operation of mines globally backed with a clearly defined strategy to deliver growth for shareholders in accordance with global Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

Julito "Sarge" Sarmiento
President

Mr. Sarmiento, a Philippine National and resident, admitted to the Philippine Bar and New York State Bar, has 30 years’ experience as a lawyer in mining, environment, social license, renewable energy, and government relations in the Philippines. He is a strong advocate for the sustainable development and social transformation of local communities, particularly of indigenous cultural communities in resource-dependent industries.

He has actively engaged with the Balatoc Indigenous Cultural Community, fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration. He has played a key role in the successful operations of several mining companies throughout the Philippines, demonstrating his expertise in project management, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

He led the acquisition by Glencore of the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining (PASAR) Corporation in Leyte Province, Visayas, where he subsequently served as Board Director, Vice President and General Counsel. He was Senior Partner and Head of Natural Resources, Environment and Social License Practice Group for 16 years of one of the leading law firms in the Philippines.

He was CEO, President, and co-Founder of WeGen Inc., a renewable distributed energy covering Southeast Asia. He is concurrently the Founder and Co-Managing Partner of Sarmiento Loriega (SL) Law Office and SL & Partners Consultancy Inc.

Mr. Sarmiento holds a Master of Laws degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence (Cand.) as a World Bank Scholar from Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut, an MBA (with highest honors) from a Joint Program of Ateneo School of Business and Colorado-based Regis University, a Bachelor of Arts degree, major in Pre-Divinity at the Ateneo de Manila University. He underwent an eight-year formation for the priesthood in the Seminary where he developed very close relationship with the Church. Mr. Sarmiento is currently the President of Makilala Holdings companies, namely Makilala Mining Company, Inc. (MCB Copper- Gold Project), Tambuli Mining Company, Inc. (Sagay Copper-Gold Project), and PDEP, Inc.

Peter Hume
Country Operations Director

Mr. Hume has over 40 years of extensive and practical experience leading major mining and construction development projects across Australia and internationally. With more than 15 years of hands-on experience in the Philippine mining industry, he has developed a deep understanding of the local context, regulatory procedures, and the complexities of navigating different jurisdictions. His expertise spans general management, project management, construction management, dispute resolution, infrastructure, and process design.

Throughout his career, he has undertaken key operational roles in mining, materials handling, processing, and infrastructure—overseeing projects from concept planning to commissioning and operations. He has also been instrumental in design management, as well as the development and implementation of quality, safety, and maintenance management systems.

His experience is further demonstrated through his work with companies such as Porgera Joint Venture, Xstrata Copper, Xstrata Coal, Anglo Coal, Glencore, Newmont Mining Corporation, BMA Coal, Kaltim Prima Coal, and Dyno Nobel, among others. In these roles, he has not only contributed to successful project execution but has also been committed to mentoring young professionals, ensuring that his extensive knowledge, experience, and core values are passed on to the next generation of industry leaders.

Attilenore Manero
Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director

Ms. Manero champions ESG within the company, driving its integration across business strategies.  With nearly 20 years of experience, she specializes in social and environmental impact management across infrastructure, energy, and mining projects involving indigenous communities in the Philippines.

She is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) and holds an ESG and Social Performance Professional certification underscoring her dedication to responsible mining practices and ensures that her work aligns with the highest industry standards in ESG and social performance. She also holds certifications in Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Sustainability Reporting, which demonstrates her ability to integrate transparent, standardized ESG disclosures and financial accountability into mining operations, fostering responsible resource management, stakeholder trust, and long-term environmental and social sustainability.

Ms. Manero’s expertise in project risk management plays a critical role in governance, ensuring that mining operations comply with regulatory requirements, social & environmental safeguards, and sustainability goals.  A strong advocate for the integration of technical, environmental, and social teams in business and mine planning,  she is responsible for fostering an interdisciplinary approach in the company’s mining project operations ensuring that they are designed and executed with a balance of economic viability, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility.

Ms. Manero holds a Doctors Degree in Rural Development and also was extensively involved previously in the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project.   Prior to joining the mining industry, she involved in World Bank and EU-funded rural development programs. As one of the founders of Anleck Limited, she played a key role in advancing the Makilala project portfolio, previously owned by Freeport-McMoRan.

Recolito "Ricky" Ferdinand Cantre, Jr.
Board Member

A Certified Public Accountant and a Lawyer, Mr. Cantre has more than a decade of practical experience in Tax Advisory and Advocacy, Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Restructuring & Reorganization, Corporate Commercial Law, Project Finance, Energy Law, Estate Planning, Transfer Pricing and Data Privacy.

His career involved working with the biggest auditing and law firms in the Philippines such as the Punongbayan & Araullo (Grant Thornton), Sycip, Gorres,Velayo & Co., Ernst & Young, and Puno Law.

He is currently a Senior Partner in Sarmiento Loriega Law and serves a Co-Head of the firm’s Mergers and Acquisition, Tax, and Corporate Practice Groups and heads the firm’s Transfer Pricing and Data Privacy Law practice areas.

Patrique Jane Duran
OIC-Chief Operations Officer

Ms. Duran is a licensed Mining Engineer with a decade of combined experience in both government and private sectors, where she has taken on key leadership roles in the mining industry. Her strong technical expertise, adaptability, and results-driven approach have enabled her to navigate complex projects with confidence and efficiency. Over the years, she has developed expertise in mine planning, contracts management, risk assessment, monitoring and evaluation, project scheduling, and budgeting.

Her in-depth knowledge of the Maalinao-Caigutan-Biyog (MCB) Project in Kalinga has been instrumental in its development. She played a pivotal role in managing various local and international studies that led to the successful delivery of the MCB Project’s Feasibility Study.

Ms. Duran’s experience is further reinforced by her tenure at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, where she gained critical regulatory insights that have proven invaluable in navigating permitting and compliance processes.

Prior to joining MMCI, she was involved significantly in the feasibility development of Sagittarius Mines’ Tampakan Copper-Gold Project in South Cotabato, demonstrating her capability to work on large-scale mining projects with strategic importance.

With a deep commitment to excellence and a track record of delivering results, Ms. Duran continues to prove that leadership in the mining industry is defined not by years alone, but by capability, dedication, and the ability to drive meaningful impact.
